Barely 24 hours after two female suicide bombers killed at least nine people and injured 40 in Damboa, Borno state, another attempt by a male suicide bomber to bomb the ‘Bakaasi‘ Internally Displaced Peoples (IDP) camp in Damboa has been neutralised by troops. According to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, at around 9.00am on Sunday, a male suicide bomber attempted to infiltrate the position of troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed behind Bakassi IDP camp, Damboa road, Maiduguri.
The suicide bomber was however shot dead by a vigilant Snipper before he could detonate hs explosives.
Usman said,”The vigilant sentry sighted the bomber and laid in wait until the suicide bomber came close.
“The sniper instantly shot and killed the terrorists as he tried to force his way to the western flank of the IDP camp fence.
“The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) vest strapped on the bomber failed to detonate. Consequently, a combined team of military and police Explosive Ordinance Device (EOD) have been called to safely detonate the IED. The situation at the camp and the general area is calm.”
