‘You can’t sack me from APC’, says embattled deputy scribe

By Wahab Akanji, Abuja

The embattled Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Timi Frank has faulted the summon to him by the party over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities, saying the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun cannot sack him.

In a statement he issued to newsmen in Abuja on Friday while reacting to the summons, Frank accused Odigie-Oyegun of running the party as a ministry.

Frank accused some members of the leadership of the party as well as some members of the National Working Committee of being afraid to speak out even when they know that things are not working well with the party.

He said Oyegun seems to have forgotten that he was no longer presiding over a Ministry as Permanent Secretary who can hire and fire.

While describing the committee as a Kangaroo committee, Frank said suspending him from the party may turn out to be a wasteful venture as it may turn him into the biggest opposition of the party.

He said the party should be careful not to fall into the same trap the African National Congress (ANC) fell into in Africa when it suspended one of its leaders, Julius Malema who he said was also fighting impunity within them party.

While dismissing the committee, he said: “I am not aware of any committee until now. I have not been served with any letter. If that is true, I am waiting to receive a letter from such committee. I don’t know who set up that committee. I don’t know whether it is a committee approved by the party structure or appointed by the National Chairman.

“With the names I saw in that committee, I can tell you that these are not known names to the party and I don’t know the petitioner. How can you petition somebody you don’t know.

“This is to let you know that he is working for his sponsors. It is very clear that this is the handiwork of my national chairman.”

“What is happening now is as a result if my recent resolve to embark in a rescue mission to expose the internal wrangling within the party by visiting party leaders.
