NIPR advises practitioners to embrace new media

Stakeholders in Public Relations practice have been urged to embrace the social media as a tool for reaching out to their audience.It was said at a 2-day summit titled ”New Media:Public Relations Practice in Networked Communities” organised by the Lagos State chapter of Nigeria Institute of Public Relations held in Lagos on thursday, October 20, 2016.

In a lecture titled making Business case for increased investment in New Media, Olusola Amusan, Head of Corporate Citizenship,Microsoft Nigeria stressed the need for Public Relations Practitioners to use the New Media as a platform for Adverting and Marketing adding that the customers needed faster responses,personalised services and better experiences.

Also speaking at the summit, Mr Femi Falodun, the Chief Digital Officer at BHM Group emphasized on brand consistency and maintaining the reputation of management circle.

On the issue of developing social media policy governing employee use of social networking sites, Emeka Oparah, the vice president corporate communications and corporate social responsibility(CSR), Airtel started network, acceptable behaviour, use of internet and Emails, social, Social Media platforms, data protection and monitoring as necessities in a social media policy. He also said that a PR Person must perform a management function and not entertainment function.

Other facilitators present at the summit include; Nkiru Olumide-Ojo, Head of Marketing and corporate communication,Stanbic IBTC Bank; Dayo Adefila, CEO, HotSauce Interactive, and Mr Sope Afolayan, Creative Director, Black Opal Studio.
