Kogi Assembly lifts suspension on 5 LG administrators

By Maxwell Adeyemi Ebenezer

Kogi House of Assembly on Wednesday at plenary lifted the suspension it imposed on five local government administrators.

Blackface News recalls that the administrators were suspended on Oct. 4, for alleged gross misconduct.

The lifting of the suspension followed the adoption of the interim report of the House Joint Committee on Public Accounts, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, mandated to investigate the allegations.

Mr Musa Jimoh-Omiata (PDP-Yagba East), Chairman of the Joint Committee who presented the report on the floor of the house in Lokoja, said that the administrators had complied substantially with the committee directives.

Jimoh-Omiata said that the committee observed that documentation and records keeping at the council levels were very poor.

He added that some administrators often abscond from their duty post for Lokoja, the state capital, instead of remaining at their duty posts.

According to him, the committee recommended that the council administrators should be urged to be more dedicated to their duties, ensure proper updating of account books.

He said that they must also ensure that they spend adequate time in their areas of jurisdiction in order to attend to their official responsibilities.

“They must ensure compliance with all the provisions of the Local Government Law 2000, as amended.

“They must keep good records of their accounts and be ready to forward same on request,” he said.
