A one-day conference to celebrate the female gender, in commemoration
of the international day of the girl-child was organized by a Non-
governmental organization, Cee-Hope Nigeria on the 18 th October, 2016 at
Ogba area of Lagos state.
C.E.O of Cee-Hope Nigeria, and Host of the conference, Mrs. Betty Abah
said the Theme of the Conference- ‘State of the Nigerian Girl’, is due to the
current condition of a Nigerian girl, caused by the mentality and mind
framework of the society towards the female gender, especially in the
With over 150 school girls, and several speakers, amongst which are Child
Right Activists, Medical practitioners, and Sex Ministers, the conference
featured a documentary of the ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ (BBOG) campaign,
Factors that affect the girl child, the Federal Government’s contributions,
and possible solutions to the problems faced by the girl-child.
One of the speakers, a Medical Practitioner, Dr. Udo-Ubong David,speaking
with our correspondent said girls that experience earl marriage suffers
from medical conditions such as, Vistula. VVF, and RVF, that puts them a
tragedic point for the rest of their lives, if nothing is done to it, and finally
gets molestation and stigmatization from her family and ‘So-called
“The state of the Nigerian girl is still pathetic, because girls who are not
allowed to have quality education, do not understand how to empower
themselves, and people take advantage of them through sexual assaults,
and early marriage. The current administration should enforce and
domesticate the child act”, said a Child Right Activist, Mrs. Laila Daniels.
”The Nigerian girl is an endangered species, that is tied down by social
impression, lack of belief, inferiority complex, lack of self-esteem, lack of
education and cultures. Government and capable Nigerians should enforce
opportunities that are specifically made for the girl child to enhance the
growth and development”, said Mrs. Betty Abah.
On a concluding note, C.E.O of CEE-HOPE Nigeria, Mrs. Betty Abah adviced
that the Fedural Government should release the demolition of houses and
buildings across the Nation, because it directly negatively affects children,
most especially the girl child, rather provide the basic amenities for a good
