Benue Assembly Confirms Governor’s Nominees for Local Councils as Sole Administrators

By Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye
The Benue House of Assembly on Friday in Makurdi confirmed the 23 sole administrator nominees sent by Gov. Samuel Ortom.
The screening and confirmation took place during plenary.
The Speaker, Mr Terkimbi Ikyange, who spoke after the screening and confirmation, said paucity of fund was responsible for appointment of sole administrators.
He said that the governor sought for the amendment of the Local Government Law, 2007 to enable him appoint sole administrators as the state has no money to conduct local government election.
Ikyange charged them to discharge their duties creditably; stressing that if any of them was found wanting, the Assembly would not hesitate to sanction the person accordingly.
He also cautioned them to strive to operate within the confines of the law no matter the circumstances.
The speaker directed those that failed to submit their tax certificates to do so through the Office of the Clerk of the House
