Only INEC can Sack Akeredolu as Ondo APC Governorship Candidate~Oyegun, Dissociates Self from Anti Tinubu Protest

By Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye

The embattled All Progressive Congress Chairman, Odigie Oyegun has declared that it is only the Independent National Electoral Commission that can change the fate of  Rotimi Akeredolu, the  governorship candidate of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial  elections in Ondo State.

Oyegun who spoke after a brief audience with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja today, explained that it was not within his purview to speak on what happened in Akure since he was not the chairman of the party’s election primary’s committee  that oversaw the primaries.

Stressing that, what happened in the Ondo State capital are in the reports and can only be explained by the chairman of the committee, Jigawa State Governor, Badaru Abubakar.

In denying rifts between him and a National Leader of the Party, Bola Tinubu, Oyegun said there was no rift between them but differences in opinion and in perception that is also normal.

Noting that even though Tinubu had probably made harsh statements, they go way back in relationship especially during their days in the trenches as members of NADECO.

The APC Chairman who also chided calls for his removal stated that there are methods of getting rid of a national chairman and are spelt out in the constitution but not exercised on the pages of newspapers.

Speaking on the Edo State governorship election which party won, Oyegun admitted that it was a hard fought election that was clear and a referendum on the performance of the sitting governor, Adams Oshimhole.

He said the elections has gone on to prove the quality of the party’s candidate in the election, Godwin Obaseki and the continued popularity of the President, Muhammadu Buhari given the economic situation in the country.

Oyegun had also disassociated himself from ongoing protests at the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja today by some youths against the high handed of Bola Tinubu in affairs of the party.
