I’m Qualified as Akeredolu’s Running Mate, Says Ajayi

By Maxwell Adeyemi Adeleye

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi yesterday said he is qualified to be the running mate of the party governorship candidate, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN in the November 26, poll.

Ajayi, who was a former House of Representatives also said certificate forgery issue, which is peddling around by those against his candidature had been put to rest for long.

In a statement issued and signed by his media aide, Mr Sam Ogunmusi noted that the issue that he forgery a certificate is no longer exist because he was never convicted or indicted for such offence.

It will be recalled that two leaders of the party, Mr. Bola Ilori and Chief Samuel Ikujuminu had rejected Agboola as the running mate to Akeredolu.

But Ajayi said the issue of certificate forgery had been laid to rest in Appeal No CA/B/E/EPT/330/2008 where the appellate court dismissed the issue of certificate forgery against the election of Ajayi as a member of House of Representatives representing Ilaje/Eseodo federal constituency between 2007 and 2011.

Ogunmusi said the  grounds upon which the petition against his boss was anchored was that at the time of the election, his boss  was not qualified to contest  on account of educational qualification and presentation of forged certificate to INEC and having been indicted for embezzlement, fraud and misappropriation.

These grounds, he said were dismissed because the petitioners as at that time could not establish the cases against him. He queried the reference to a case that had been dismissed since 2009 by the Court of Appeal in 2016.

On the issue of Local Government origin, Ajayi said although the mother of Akeredolu is from Igbotu in Eseodo Local Government that should not be a criterion for disqualification as nobody chooses his place of birth and parentage.

Ajayi said those raising issues of certificate and Local Government should join hands with the party to deliver the state to the APC.
