Following controversy trailing the outcome of the APC Ondo Gubernatorial Primary Election, and the setting up of the Election Appeal Committee, a staff of the party at its National Secretariat, Mr. Abeeb Danubi has been sacked.
He was sacked following his involvement in the leaking of the legal opinion of the Legal Adviser of the party, Dr. Muiz Banire to the National Working Committee through the National Chairman of the Party, Chief Odigie Oyegun.
According to a source in the secretariat, as customary with the party, whenever a decision with legal implication is to be taken, the party sought the advice of its Legal Adviser. It did so in its decision to field Yahya Bello following the death of Abubakar Audu in Kogi State.
Mr. Danubi who worked in the legal office was privy to the contents of the Legal Adviser opinion to the National Working Committee sitting to take a decision on the issue following the report of the Election Appeal Panel, and under inducement, he compromised, and leaked the Legal Adviser opinion to the public.
The said report has gone viral on all social media, creating tension in the camp of the aspirants in Ondo State.
Contrary to belief in some quarters, the National Working Committee is not bound to accept fully or partially the opinion of the Legal Adviser, however, the Office of the Legal Adviser, has done what is expected of it by advising the National Working Committee of the party on the Election Appeal Panel Report.
Banire, whose advice the party cannot afford to take with a pinch of salt given its legal standing, was quoted by This day Newspaper to have subtly warned the party leadership not to accede to the recommendations of the panel to nullify the Primary Election in Ondo State and order for a rerun because it held grave consequences in all ramification, especially on the integrity of the committee that conducted the election and led by the Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar and the entire National Working Committee of the Party who produced the delegate list used for the election and said to be a fake by the appeal panel.
Our findings show that Dr. Banire is presently in the USA attending the International Bar Conference, and could not be reached for comments.
