Ondo primaries: APC NWC meeting deadlocked

A meeting of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress on the report of the Ondo APC governorship primaries Appeals Committee, was deadlocked as party leaders failed to reach a consensus. The meeting which had most members of the NWC in attendance was held at the party’s National Secretariat on Monday.

It was learnt that the three-hour long meeting, was convened to deliberate on the Appeal Panel’s report which was secretly submitted to the NWC by the panel’s Chairman, Margaret Bendega, late on Friday.

It was gathered that the party leadership is divided over whether or not to cancel the primaries.

A yet to be verified information claimed that the panel observed that the process was flawed based on evidence that the list of delegates was tampered with.

Another piece of information claimed that the committee observed that, though, there were irregularities, they were not substantial enough to lead to an outright cancellation of the primaries.

It was, however, learnt that the committee submitted its findings and left the decision on the way forward to the party leadership.

The Ondo APC Governorship primaries conducted on September 3, was marred in controversy as several contestants and party leaders from the state alleged massive electoral fraud.

Chief Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) was declared winner after the contest which was supervised by the Governor Abubakar Badaru-led Primary Election Committee.

Akeredolu defeated Engr. Segun Abraham, the preferred candidate of the national leader of APC, Senator Bola Tinubu.

Segun Abraham, Olusola Oke and Senator Ajayi Borofice had petitioned the APC Appeal Panel Committee headed by Mrs. Helen Benaga, alleging irregularities on the delegates’ list for the primaries.
