As part of moves to ensure that the outcome of the last Ondo governorship ticket primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) that produced him stands, the candidate of the party for the November poll, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu stands, he has begun moves to reach out to aggrieved stakeholders within the party.
The Owo born former President of the Nigeria Bar Association won the straw poll that was recently conducted by the party by defeating 23 other contestants that jostle for the ticket by polling 669 votes.
Coming second was the perceived choice of the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Olusegun Abraham, who scored 635 votes to place second in the race.
Not long after his announcement virtually all the aspirants begun to congratulate him except for the second runners up, Dr. Olusola Oke who told the nation that the exercise was fraught with irregularities.
Soon after others began to recant saying the primaries were marred by irregularities.
They all wrote separate petitions to the leadership of the APC in Abuja, who promptly set up an appeal committee whose decision is still being awaited but Akeredolu has commenced moves to mend fences with the leaders of the party with a view to starve off moves to cancel the primaries.
One of such was to reach out to leaders such as Tinubu and Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola with a view to get them to support his candidature and to help bring other aggrieved members into his side ahead of the forthcoming electioneering campaigns.
Sources close to him stated that he has indeed been trying to set up a meeting with Tinubu to get his support but that for some reasons of timing and logistics, the meeting has not materialised as at the time of filing this reports.
One of the sources told BLACKFACE that “He is really doing all he could to get the support of Asiwaju to talk to Abraham to back down on his opposition and to ultimately campaign for him, so he is doing everything within his power to enlist his support.”
On the other hand, Akeredolu is said to have met with Aregbesola in Osogbo on Sunday but the outcome of the meeting is unknown as at the time of filing this report.
Another source said, “Aregbesola is crucial because of his support for Oke. He can help persuade Oke to drop his stance against the outcome of the primaries.”
