Edo election: Rivers PDP absolves Wike of links with militants

By Tom Amakri, Port Harcourt

The Rivers State chapter of People Democratic Party (PDP) has absolved the state governor, Chief Nyesom Wike off complicity in plots to mobilise militants for the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State Reacting to the claims of Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole on Wednesday, the party said the allegation is nothing but cheap blackmail by Wike’s detractors.

Addressing the press at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Publicity Secretary of the Party, Mr. Sammuel Nwanosike said Governor Wike cannot be deterred by the cheap blackmail and allow his party to be manipulated.

Nwanosike accused Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole of being desperate to win an election he already know is a victory for PDP.

He said the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Edo state has lost their popularity, stressing that instead of manufacturing excuses and pointing accusing finger, the party should wait on the Election Day to see which party is on ground in the state.

“Wike as no link with militants, so the statement credited by Adams Oshiomhole  of Edo state shows that he is a desperate man who is looking for a way out. There is no truth that Governor Wike and ifeayi Okwa of Delta state made available the sun of N2billion for Edo election.

“The people of Edo state have made up their mind to vote for PDP, Edo people want to see the simple agenda that would better their life. Whether, the date is change or not, it would not change the mind of Edo people to vote for PDP.”

On Governor Wike’s amnesty programme in the state, the PDP said the governor is not giving the cultist or militants’ money but setting a process that would better their lives.

He noted that the governor is determined to end criminality in the state, adding that offering an amnesty programme was in a right direction to give those disturbing the state a chance to become a better person.

“ At APC  rally in Bonny, one of the Chieftains accused Governor Wike of giving money to cultists and militants in the name of amnesty. We are here to say that the Governor cannot exchange the livelihood of the youths which is paramount to a mere stipend.

“Governor Wike is a man who understands the plight of his people; he knows what is good for these boys. He doesn’t want to give them money but an empowerment that could last forever. That was why the call for amnesty was necessary.”
