CBN mobilises Kebbi farmers, organises agric fair

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has commenced moves to mobilise farmers in the northern part of the country for productivity by holding a two day agric fair in Kebbi State.


The event took place at the state capital, Birnin-Kebbi and was declared opened by a senior official of the bank, Alhaji Aliyu Katuka who stated that the fair is planned to mobilise the low income but economically active people.


Katuka explained that the involvement of the bank was aimed at increasing productivity of the farming community, generate employment, create wealth and engendered sustainable growth.


In his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Muhammad Shehu Lawal told participants that agric is the bedrock of any Nation’s economic growth, pointing out that no agric no Nation.


He stated that agriculture is the only way Nigeria can get out of its ongoing economic recession, adding that the Nigeria Nation is facing a serious recession now because of its over dependent on oil.


He stated that no fewer than 70% of the people of Kebbi State are farmers of which about 70,000 are fully involved in rice cultivation and production.
