Tears flows freely in Amara Olu community in Agidingbi area of Lagos on Tuesday as a newly wed woman, Faisah Mohammed was killed by a mudslide.
General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Michael Akindele said others who sustained injuries among those who lived in the shanties have been taken to hospital for treatment.
Akindele described the area where the incident occurred as wetland which must not occupied in the first place adding that residents of other nearby houses have been evacuated to safety.
When our correspondent asked if the Mudslide was as a result of heavy rains witnessed in the state, Michael Akindele said it will be too early to conclude noting the scene of the incident is also close to canal which has been encroached.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare ordered the squatters in the shanties to leave the area immediately.
He vowed that the illegal structures will soon be demolished to avoid recurrence in the future.
