Bayelsa APC wants Buhari to remove Brambaifa from NDDC board

By Samuel Tombra, Yenagoa

The Bayelsa State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has written to President Muhammadu Buhari urging him to withdraw the state’s representative Professor Nelson Brambaifa from the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). According to the party, the appointment of Brambaifa was against the interest of party cohesion in the state as it negated balance and fairness.

“Professor Nelson Brambaifa’s appointment has serious political implications in the sense that the current Minister representing Bayelsa State, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri (Honourable Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development), is from Ekeremor Local Government area, in Bayelsa West senatorial district.

“The Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, General Paul Boroh (rtd.), is Sagbama Local Government Area also from Bayelsa West. Now, the Bayelsa State representative on the NDDC Board is also Sagbama Local government area in the same Bayelsa West senatorial zone”, the party said.

In the letter, signed by the only APC member in the House of Assembly, Mr. Israel Sunny- Goli, the party accused the former Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi of meddling in its state affairs by foisting the appointment of Brambiafa on the people.

Sunny-Goli who is also the House Committee Chairman on NDDC insisted that the appointments so far made in the state by Buhari were eroding cohesion and causing party disunity because they were all concentrated in one senatorial district of the state.

He said the party was shocked when its nominee who had been agreed by all stakeholders could not make the final list.

He attributed the development to the alleged claims by Amaechi that Buhari directed him to nominate the state representatives from the Niger Delta states following his position as the Director- General of the President’s Campaign Organization.

Sunny- Goli said if the Brambaifa was not withdrawn, it would mean that other senatorial districts that campaigned against the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s government for the Buhari’s administration had been excluded, with grave implications for party cohesion.

He condemned the attempts by some persons to sideline the state APC leaders in the affairs of the government by foisting people on them.

He asked Amaechi to restrict his party activities to Rivers State and leave other South- South states alone.

He declared that APC members still believed in the ideology of the Buhari’s government and would want him to reverse the nomination to assuage the ill-feelings party members had towards the Federal Government.

He said: “When it was time to nominate state representatives to the NDDC Board, the leaders and stakeholders of APC in Bayelsa State met and recommended a nominee to Mr. President through the Honourable Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, for appointment into the Board.

“But we are surprised that this nominee did not make the final list. We know that it is not the fault of Mr. President that our nominee is not on the list.
