Edo State chapter of the National Automobile Technicians Association of Nigeria (NATA) and other associations have endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Godwin Obaseki for the forthcoming governorship election. The groups which included the Evbareke Spare parts Market Association, Egor Community Development Association, Edo state Farmers Association and Edo state Wood Sellers and Buyers Association were largely at the Ward campaign rally of the APC at most famous spare parts market where they resolve to mobilize their registered members to vote for Obaseki.
The President of NATA in the state, Comrade Irabor Asemota who spoke at the rally said the APC administration under the leadership of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has brought the state to limelight in less than eight years since coming to power.
“This great association is more than 17, 000 across the 3 senatorial district of Edo state and we want to thank Oshiomhole for the infrastructural development in the state. We have not had such since donkey years”.
He assured Obaseki who he described as the governor-in-waiting that “All the NATA members, our brothers, sisters, nephew, niece will vote for the APC. In fact i promise that our household will cast their vote for the APC. We are fully behind you and there is no obstacle that will stop you from being the governor comeSeptember 10”.
On his part, Comrade Efosa Asemota, President of Evbareke Spare Parts Market explained that the associations decided to endorse Obaseki because they are convinced that with him as governor who already knows the doings of government, the pace of development in the state will continue uninterrupted.
He however recall the days where various areas in the state were regarded as Morocco and Spain because of the decay in infrastructural development which the People’s Democratic Party brought upon the people adding that the state can’t return to such jeopardy.
He said, “We the people of this market we have more than 6, 000 voters and i promise you from my heart that come September 10, we will come out en masse and cast our votes for Obaseki to be the governor of the state.
Asemota noted that with what Governor Adams Oshiomhole has done for the state, “the people of this market we are urging Edo people we need continuity. That is why we in this market will cast our votes for the APC.
“We the people in this spare part market we have resolved to fully support you irrespective of any threat we will get from any angle, we will support you because we need continuity in Edo state so that is why we will come out en masse and vote for Obaseki. We have also promised to work with you in clear mind and conscience”. He assured.
Asemota added that it is wrong for any individual or group to ignore the sense of commitment brought into governance by incumbent governor, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, a reason why the state is one of the few mentioned in terms of people-driven governance.
“We all can see the difference between Edo state under Oshiomhole and others before him. With Oshiomhole, our state became the envy of other states in terms of development and prudent management of resources. We know that with Obaseki in charge, the sky is the limit. We have decided to adopt him because we know he will do even more”, Asemota stated.
Also, Mr. Amen Idahosa Speaker of the Wood Sellers and Buyers Association said all hope was lost in Edo state until Oshiomhole was sent by God to rescue the state from the captivity of the opposition party the (PDP). He caution against voting for the opposition party which he said will return the state to the former era of darkness and godfatherism which has under develop the state between 1999 and 2008.
Responding, the APC candidate, Mr Obaseki said “For me i am home because like all of you i am a business person. I have not worked in government before i was in government to help so i understand your plights and i understand the kind of businesses you do every day to feed your family.
“Today the campaign is about telling ourselves the truth, it is true that Oshiomhole has worked in this state, and it is true that the opposition has shared the money made for our development.
“Although we have done all these things but there are some yet to be done and that is why we want continuity and want you vote for continuity. As the next governor of Edo state i will do the following; i will continue where Oshiomhole stopped, i will do the roads that have not been done including this Evbareke market road and the textile mill road. Just to let you know the textile mill road design is ready and we will work on his very soon. The schools we have built that are yet to be completed will be completed but in addition, we will focus on empowerment.
He promised to set up a furniture village that will drive the state’s economy saying, “As a governor, we will join hands with all the associations and setup technical and automobile schools where we will train people on automobile repairs and award certificates when they are through. We will also give microfinance loan and set up branches for associations to practise what they have learnt.
“We will focus on women empowerment where we will give women across the state soft loans to boost their businesses and also create jobs from the investments in the state because government alone can’t create jobs.
“By the grace of God we will produce food for this country through agriculture because we have already given out hectares of land for investors to utilize and employ our so that they can create jobs”. He stated.
