Speaker lauds Osun at 25, says state on track to development

By Akeeb Alarape, Osogbo

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam has said the contributions of successive leaders have set the state on the right track of development.

In a statement by the Chairman, House Committee on Information and Strategy, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, stated that the statement formed the opinions of members at a plenary on Tuesday during a Special Legislative session to mark the 25th Anniversary of the creation of the state.

The Speaker, according to the statement, said the people of the state have course to celebrate due to the development that has been witnessed since the creation.

According to him, though, past leaders of the state have all played significance roles towards the development of the state, stressing that the emergence of Governor Rauf Aregbesola has brought more development.

The speaker who also stressed that the dreams of the founding have not been fully reached, noted that the state was still developing inspite of the economic recession in the country.

According to him, the legislative arm of government from inception of the state till date has been instrumental to the successes recorded by Aregbesola and his predecessors.

He said: “The state lost its infancy to the military interregnum, but it would be unfair to expunge the little the military administrators have done.

“Obviously,  Senator Isiaka Adeleke did his bit, Chief Bisi Akande four years mandate was remarkable, and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola asserted himself on the job within the limited resources available to him, but the kind of financial engineering, massive projects in all sectors in this dispensation is very inspiring and I must say Governor Aregbesola break the bridge of limitation.

“As I express my satisfaction with magnitude of support this Assembly has extended to the governor, I must say that we all have cause to be proud of the achievements of this administration”, he stressed.

The Deputy Speaker, Honourable Akintunde Adegboye said though, all the past leaders of the state did their best, but the developmental mindset brough in by Aregbesola stood out.

Noting that the developmental projects he had embarked upon across the state were massive and put the state on a high pedestal, he urged the present administration to ensure the completion of all the ongoing projects.

The leader of house, Honourable Timothy Owoeye particularly scored the Aregbesola administration high in the area of security, infrastructural development, education among other sectors, saying, he has complemented the efforts of the past leaders of the state.

Adding that though, the state is gradually developing inspite of the limited resources available to it over the years, he said more needed to be done for more development to come.

Also, Honourables Osuolale Bello (Boripe/Boluwaduro), Kamil Oyedele (Irepodun/Orolu), Rasheed Afolabi (Ifelodun), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye (Obokun), Akinwole Akinwale (Ife East), Ajibola Akinloye (Ola-Oluwa), Kamardeen Akanbi (Ede North), Nurein Adebisi (Ede South), Ibrahim Gbadebo (Iwo)and Olaolu Oyeniran (Odo-Otin) among others commended the successive leaders for the efforts they have made to develop the state.

Oyedele and Akanbi said if the standard that had been set by Aregbesola administration is sustained, it would bring continous development to the state in the nearest future.

Oyintiloye said, though the economic crunch currently hitting the country was heavy on the state, but the government has been able to use its ingenuity at making things work, saying, “we are happy that Osun is growing and developing”.

He also identified that the legislative arms of government from inception till date have paraded men and women of honour and integrity who have legislated to guarantee the development of the state.
