Olajide Jimoh has rendered his account of stewardship to his constituency.ThiJide Jimoh 2s is coming just as he has also empowered vulnerable constituents with economic empowerment items at a well-attended ceremony that took place at the council secretariat of Yaba Local Council Development Area located in Adekunle area of Yaba on Thursday.

The occasion was attended by chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by a leader of the party in Lagos Central SenatoriaJide Jimoh 4l District, Prince Tajudeen Olusi.

Other chieftains of the party that graced the occasion include the Deputy Publicity Secretary, Hon. Abiodun Salami, a former chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Prince Kayode Olowu.

Also, the two elected members of the state House of Assembly from the area, Hon. Oladele Adekanye and Moshood Osh
un, the immediate past Executive Secretary of Yaba LCDA, Mrs. Omolola Essiet who stood in for the member representing Lagos Central District at the Senate, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The occasion was the fourth in the series of regular stakeholders’ town-hall meeting between him and the people of the area.

Addressing the gathering, Jimoh, who stressed the need for government at all levels  to  empower Nigerians, especially at this period that the nation is experiencing economy recession, insisted that it is the only way toJide Jimoh 6 develop.

Jimoh said the country is currently facing a myriad of problems thus making the economy comatose no thanks to the maladministration of the immediate past regime of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Jide Jimoh 10Sounding optimistic, he added that “It is gratifying to note that the present government is working steadily to give the economy the needed impetus and restore the past glory. We are seeing positive signals already. It is obvious that empowering Nigerians is the way to go if we must develop.

Jide Jimoh 7“No doubt if we are serious about reducing the incidence of burglary, armed robberies and associated crimes, the youths must be constructively engaged,” he said.

He explained that the essence of empowering his constituents with items such as sewing machines, grinding machines, egg  among other things is to alleviate their sufferings as well as to give them a new lease of life.

He said the items given out to the beneficiaries include: tricycles, block-moulding machines, motorised sewing machines and grinding machines.

Jimoh listed other items to include 2kva generators, hair drying machines, farm produce (egg), packaged fishes, bundles of slippers amongst others.

Jide Jimoh 8The lawmaker added, “Let me state clearly that we have taken the pains to ensure that only those who will make use of these items for business were selected. We have invested in these tricycles because of our firm belief that the transport system is thriving in Nigeria.”

He, therefore, admonished the beneficiaries to see the provisions as an opportunity to launch into business. “History is replete with businesses, which started small but are today big”.

On his part, Olusi lauded Jimoh for the gesture, saying it would go a long way in ameliorating the sufferings of his constituents but sounded a caution that the economic empowerment schemes being undertaken by public officials should be reviewed if they must make the needed impacts.

Jide Jimoh 5He went down memory lane on how such initiative found its way into political activities that has overtime been adopted by the both elected and appointed public officials.

Olusi credited the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for being the pioneer officer holder to complete such gesture but regretted that the objective has never been achieved.

“I am impressed by the large turnout of party members who turned out today to be part of this programme today. It goes to show the love you all have for the party as well as the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Looking at the items to be presented here today, I can say that our honourable member has done well but let me say that we really need to have a rethink on these empowerment schemes that we usually give to our people. I am saying this because these schemes have not been meeting the expectations of the people.” He said.

According to him, past beneficiaries usually divert such items, which he said calls for concern. He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items for their economic benefit.
