Leaders of the Itsekiri People’s Congress have warned members of the Niger Delta Avengers against speaking for the Itsekiri nation in their agitations.   Speaking on behalf of the IPC, its leader; Evang.  Prince Ishola Ekwejunor-Etchie in a statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday asserted that the group neither support nor form part of the Niger Delta Avengers.

“The Itsekiri man has no pedigree of violence, so we don’t ascribe ourselves to violent approach to agitation. We don’t destroy our ecosystem or property in the name of agitation. Not that the Itsekiri man cannot give violence, the Ijaw man is a good witness to the kind of violence itsekiri gives.

“Tompolo knows me. I fought him to a standstill and drove him out of the Nigeri Delta”, Prince Ekwejunor-Etchie stated in the statement.

Bemoaning the fact that sons and daughters of the Itsekiri nation have not been appointed into political offices since the onset of president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, he also lamented the fact that the Itsekiri nation which produces 30 percent of the oil stay of  the nation  experiences a complete lack of  infrastructural development.

Prince Ekwejunor-Etchie, son of a former chief priest of the Warri kingdom further called on the federal government to urgently constitute a negotiating team to articulate the grievances of the Itsekiri people.

“Our norms forbid violence hence we are using this medium to appeal to the federal government of Nigeria and oil companies to stop the modern day slavery experienced by our people. We beg president Buhari not to undermine the voice of the minority”, he submitted.
