Troops attached to the military taskforce code named Operation LAFIYA DOLE have thwarted an attempt by Boko Haram terrorists on Yauri Community at the outskirts of Maiduguri city, Borno State.
According to the Army Director of Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman the attack took place at about 8.00 pm on Monday.
He stated that in the encounter, the troops killed 5 of the attackers and recovered 2 AK-47 rifles, 1 General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), one 60mm Mortar Tube, 1 Fabrique Nationale (FN) rifle, 2 Dane Guns, 2 AK-47 rifle magazines, 2 FN rifle magazines, 131 rounds of 7.62mmÂ (NATO) ammunition, 31 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions, a 60mm Bomb and the sum of N31,275.00 from the terrorists.
Usman added that in another development that the troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army involved in anti-cattle rustling and anti-banditry operationsÂ in Zamfara State, same day carried out clearance operations on suspected armed bandits hideouts in some forests within Zamfara State.
He said the troops carried out the raids at Batara and Ajah forests in Birnin Magaji and Gusau Local Government Areas, Zamfara State.
“Although the armed bandits fled the camps, the troops destroyed the camps, recovered 3 motorcycles and 2 mobile telephone handsets.
They further raided Rimawa forest in Gusau Local Government Area where they arrested 2 wanted armed bandits, Aliyu Abubakar and Umar Ibrahim.
In Bini village forest, Maru Local Government Area, the troops also arrested a notorious and wanted armed bandits collaborator, Umar Dan Bilbili”.
He confirmed that the troops carried out the raid despite the poor weather condition.Â
