Traditional rulers in Esanland have blamed a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih for the continued marginalization of the Edo Central Senatorial District.
Ehidiamen who is the vice chairman, Edo Traditional Council, spoke on behalf of others who converged at Opoji to debunked the earlier statement credited to PDP said the allegation that Governor Adams Oshiomhole led All Progressives Congress (APC) government, did nothing to uplift the standard of living of the people of Edo Central was false.
The Onojie stated this while fielding questions from newsmen on Saturday at his palace in Opoji, Esan Central Local Government Area of the state.
The monarch’s position is coming as a chieftain of the APC, Chief Francis Inegbineki said the district has benefited more under APC than under the PDP reign of ten years in Edo.
He said aside making himself as minister and chairman of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) at a point, Anenih, from Uromi, only worked for the benefit of his immediate family and Uromi people.
He noted that political positions, from both Federal and state, under PDP, meant for Edo people, always ended up with the former friends and family of Anenih or his people of Uromi extraction.
He stressed that the same was the position with projects meant for the state.
He noted that this action of the former minister for works and NPA chairman polarised the people from the other four Local Government Areas that made up the district.
“As a traditional ruler, I am closer to the people and should also live above politics. Anenih alienated other council areas that made up Esan land.
“Uromi, Esan North East Council area had all when it comes to political appointments and federal presence, in form of projects execution while other councils and it’s people were made to be an onlooker.
“What am saying is that Oshiomhole government did more for the Esan than PDP government, where Inineh, a son of the soil wild lots of influence, both at the state and federal level,” he stated.
Ehidiamen who is optimistic of violence free governorship poll in Edo, on September 10, said the people would cast their votes based on antecedent of the political parties and their candidates.
Similarly, Chief Francis Inegbeneki, said Oshiomhole government looked beyond politics and executed people oriented projects across the district.
According to him, “The roads Oshiomhole administration has done in the whole of the Senatorial District for the past Seven years, PDP government could not for ten years.
“How many roads can I mention? He built a brand new hospital at Ewohimi. We are demanding for more.
“We cannot say the governor marginalised us. There were shortcomings. We are praying now that before the end of the administration, the remaining projects are completed as part of the dividends.
“There is a brand new road they are constructing. The road from Ekpoma to Iruekpen. So, that is part of it. The governor is still working and I think in a democracy, when you feel you are not satisfy you have the right to agitate and ask for more; and I think that is what they are doing.
“But, the truth is that Oshiomhole has not marginalised Esan people, because we have gotten more from him than what we ever got from PDP.”Â
