Constituents mount pressure on Ondo Assembly over member-elect

By Samuel Faleye, Akure

Residents of Irele in Ondo State have urged the leadership of the state House of Assembly to swear in their new representative Mr Gbadebo Odimayo. They premised their argument on the issuance of certificate of return to Odimayo by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the legitimate candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last year’s general election.

A former lawmaker from the area, Albert Akintoye said the call became imperative in view of the fact that there should be no vacuum in order not to short change the people of Irele in the scheme of things.

INEC had withdrawn the certificate it presented to Mr Segun Ajimotokin who is also of the PDP but came second in the primary election.

Odimayo was presented the certificate of return by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Segun Agbaje at the INEC headquarters in Abuja following a court ruling in his favour as the authentic flag bear of PDP in the election.

The people urged the leadership of the house to do the swearing in and allow Odimayo to give the people of Irele quality representation.

Speaking at the presentation of the certificate,Agbaje noted that INEC has followed due process and wish Mr Odimayo good deliberation at the assembly.

Responding, Odimayo commended the INEC for their compliance with court ruling just as he promised to give his people good representation.
