Benue Assembly suspends PDP lawmaker over crisis

Benue State House of Assembly has slammed a five month suspension on the member representing Logo State Constituency, Mr. Kester Kyenge for unruly behavior. He was also alleged to be dishing out falsehood against the leadership of the Assembly with the intention to tarnish the image of the entire Assembly.

But the Benue state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the action of the House to suspend their member.

The House took the decision sequel to a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Benjamin Adanyi,  in which he drew the House attention to media reports credited to him were he alleged that the leadership misappropriated huge sums of monies meant for the purchase of Vehicles for the lawmakers.

It could be recalled that the refusal of Mr. Kyenge to abide by the ruling of the Speaker who ruled him out of Order led to a rowdy session last Tuesday, leading to abrupt closure of the House by the Speaker.

Thereafter, Mr. Ikyange addressed a press conference and called for the resignation of the Speaker for allegedly embezzling N750m meant for vehicles of members.

Moving the motion, Mr. Adanyi told the House that apart from misinforming the public concerning the vehicle contract, the suspended lawmaker threw the House into chaos by disobeying the ruling of the Speaker on matter of procedure contrary to the House Rules.

The Majority Leader explained that the behaviour was contrary to Parliamentary practice and procedure of the Assembly, saying if not checked, it will lead to total breakdown of law and order in the House.
