Men of the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a 30 year old father, Joseph Ibanga for strangling his four years old daughter, Gloria Ibanga, to death.Â
Also arrested by the police is one 30 year old Victor Esin, who allegedly killed his 60 years old uncle Rev. Esin Andang.Â
The suspects were paraded on Wednesday at the stateâ€™s police headquarters in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.Â
Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, said that although the crime was committed at different locations within the state, the command was able to arrest them based on information given by people in the affected areas to the police.Â
According to her, the command would not rest in its oars until criminal tendencies are reduced to the barest minimum in the state, calling on residents of the state to always volunteer information to enable the command carry out its duties successfully.Â
The PPRO noted that, once all the necessary investigations are completed, the suspects would appear in court, warning parents to make sure that, they monitor the type of friends their wards keep.
Confirming their involvement in the alleged crimes, Victor and Joseph claimed, they were led by the evil spirit to carry out this heinous crime and pleaded for leniency.
Narrating his own side of his story, Joseph 30 years old from Ibiono Ibom said: â€œI donâ€™t even understand, I stay in Port Harcourt, I came to the village that day; I donâ€™t really know what happened, I started quarrelling with my mother.Â
â€œAbout 4am in the morning, my daughter was sleeping, until I carried her to the village stream and strangle her to dead, I cannot tell.
â€œIt was people from my mother side that arrested me, I regret my act and really I cannot tell why I kill my four years old daughter.â€
Victor aged 30 years said: â€œI went to my uncleâ€™s house to ask him why people were dying in my family. I got there, met him and the children, we exchange pleasantries what really happened after that, I cannot explain.
Asked how he uses machete to butcher his uncle, he said, â€œthat why I am pleading for leniency because I cannot say what really pushed me into doing that.â€
