NFF makes u-turn, denies appointing Le Guen as Super Eagles’ coach

By Femi Adefioye, Abuja

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has denied media reports that it has appointed Frenchman, Paul Le Guen as the technical adviser of the Super Eagles. On Monday, the media had reported that Le Guen has been named the new gaffer of the team, adding that he had been charged with the responsibility of qualifying the country for the next FIFA World Cup scheduled to hold in Russia.

However, a twist was added to the much publicised story when an influential French tabloid had on Monday twitted that Le Guen has rejected the offer of coaching the team owing to disagreement over his terms of engagement.

The Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee, Hon. Suleiman Yahaya-Kwande, on Tuesdaydismissed the reports of the Frenchman’s rejection of the position as simply preposterous.

In a statement he issued on Tuesday, Yahaya-Kwande stating that his committee only recommended Le Guen for the job, adding that the committee’s job was only to suggest successful candidate for appointment.

“The Executive Committee of Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday clarified the situation with regards to the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee that Frenchman Paul Le Guen be named the new Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, saying all sub –committees in the Federation can only make recommendations to the Board.”
