Ijaw leaders in the Warri Local Government Area of Delta State have debunked media reports stating that the Minister of Youths and Sports, Mr. Solomon Dalung have met with some leaders of the militant group, Niger Delta Avengers. Rather, the leader advised the Federal Government’s official to be wary of those they consult in the bid to negotiate with the Niger Delta Avengers and other militant groups operating in the region.

While debunking the alleged meeting, Oporoza leaders, in a statement signed by its chairman,  Mr Johnbull Dumebi said, “We wish to warn and advise government functionaries and Very Important Persons (VIPs) to be careful and mindful of persons they associate with, particularly with the intention of visiting our communities.

“Some persons are out there to make money from top government functionaries and bring the name of the community to disrepute. Hon. Minister Solomon Dalung should know that he has been deceived by mischievous persons and perhaps must have been swindled.

“It is pertinent to state that, to the best of our knowledge, we the leadership of the community did not receive the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sport, or any other government official in Oporoza town last week.

“We have stated in many fora and occasions that we do not know anything about the Niger Delta Avengers. Oporoza town or any other communities in Gbaramatu kingdom have nothing to do with the Avengers and their activities. We have in time past condemned the activities of the Avengers, therefore could not have anything to do with them in our community,” Dumebi said.
