The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has cautioned against the use of divisive and abusive languages by party members. According to the Publicity Secretary of the party in the State, Banji Okunomo, the use of inciting words could affect the unity of the party.Â
He urged party members to be ready to support and work for whoever emerges as the PDP flag bearer in the governorship primary election.Â
Okunomo said, “The PDP in Ondo State wishes to caution against divisive utterances, odd and counterproductive words among its members as we prepare for the State’s governorship election.Â
“It is necessary for all party members to refrain from utterances that are capable of dividing our ranks within the PDP”.Â
He posited that many of the divisive utterances are borne out of apprehension by some party members which he described as unnecessary.Â
The PDP spokesman said the governorship election in the state would almost be a work over because we believe the election would be predicated upon the scorecards of Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s administration and the unity of our Party.
He said”We should not divide our ranks on petty issues because we know that as far as the election is concerned, the PDP would produce the best candidate.
“The PDP candidate would be such that can hold Ondo State together as one and foster unity among citizens of the entire State.
“We should not forget that what matters is the development of the State. We should know that the current economic situation in the Country calls for a man who can properly manage the affairs of the State.
“If the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government is mismanaging the affairs of Nigeria at the centre, we cannot afford to replicate such in this State.
“What is most important now is to bring in a government that can upscale our economy in the State and the only viable alternative we have now is the PDP”, he stated.Â
Okunomo who noted that the common goal of the party should be pursued said: “Our people should jettison sentimental aspirations, clannish and selfish interest should not be allowed to becloud their reasoning”.Â
He observed that the primary election through which the candidate of the party would emerge would be free, fair and not hijacked by anyone.Â
According to him”Our people should not entertain any fears. We trust the leadership of the party would accommodate all interests. So, our people should be at peace”.
