LMC sanctions Warri Wolves, Ifeanyi Ubah over violent conduct

The League Management Company (LMC) have fined and sanctioned two clubs, FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Warri Wolves, for the unruly conduct of their fans during their recent match day 25 and 26 fixtures in the Nigeria Professional Football League, reports

FC Ifeanyi Ubah were charge for their failure to provide adequate security for the centre referee who officiated their game against Sunshine Stars who was assaulted in his hotel room after the week 25 fixture.

The referee was reported to have lost some valuable personal items to the hoodlums.

Though the management of the club took a cogent step by compensating the referee for the lost items, the league body still fined them N750,000 for the act.

Warri Wolves on the hand were charged N1m for the encroachment on to the field of play by their stewards and supporters immediately after their game against Wikki Tourists last Sunday.

The Seasiders were further hit with a fine of N750,000 after their supporters and stewards also assaulted match officials in their hotel rooms and their failure to show sportsmanship and conducting themselves in a manner capable of bringing the league to disrepute.

Consequently, the club was fined N1.250,000, representing N250,000 each as compensation for the assault on the match commissioner and the four match referees.

The club was also directed to pay N250,000 being the value of the items lost by the match officials in the course of the assault.

Wolves have also been ordered to play their next three home games behind closed doors with the execution of the last two suspended subject to their good conduct for the remainder of the season.

The LMC also ordered a suspended two points deduction on the club subject to good conduct for the remainder of the season.

Both clubs have 48 hours to appeal against the decision.
