EU offers assistance to Jigawa on economic diversification

The European Union (EU) has promised to work with Jigawa State Government in the areas of agriculture and solid minerals development. 

EU’s Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Mitchel Arrion stated this on Wednesday at the Government House, Dutse. 

Arrion explained that the EU has 28 members and 20 ambassadors of member countries in Nigeria, noting that it played a significant role in the country’s general election last year. 

He said the EU is engaging with the new administration with a view to diversifying the economy of the nation. 

In his response, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar said his administration has accorded priority to agriculture and solid minerals development. 

Abubakar explained that “In line with the present administration good policies and commitment towards improving agricultural sector attracted two investors Alhaji Aliko Dangote and Mr. Lee have invested in the cultivation of rice and sugar cane”. 

According to the governor, “The state will engage the EU in the agriculture value chain which I beliefs would play a vital role in improving the sector to achieve the objective desire”. 

He therefore urged to the EU to intervene in the state in the area of Education, infant mortality and morbidity.
