N’Central ethnic nationalities set to draft proposal on restructuring

By Solomon Gabkwet, Jos

Leaders of the various ethnic nationalities in the North Central part of the country have set up a 10-man committee to prepare a draft position paper on restructuring within the next six weeks. This forms part of a communiqué issued at the end of a one day meeting held in Jos, the Plateau State capital on Tuesday to brain storm on the likely position of the region on restructuring.

This is coming just as the summit also resolved to gather opinions from stakeholders and put together a common position on the subject.

According to the communiqué signed by its National Chairman Hon. Toma Jang Davou and Secretary Comrade Pius Attah, they also charged the same committee with the responsibility of investigating the status of the Atakar/Ganawuri disagreements and report back accordingly.

In his remark opening remarks, Davou said while other part of the country and eminent personalities from other zones had voiced their opinions on restructuring, little or nothing had been heard from the 14 states and FCT making up the region.

“No one can say precisely what the government is likely to do. However we should be proactive. In the eventuality that government decided to restructure the country, we should have our Blue Print.

“It is imperative we fashion out a position for the middle belt on the matter, document it well and give it a wide publicity now.  No one should determine our destiny but we ourselves,” he said.
