Muslims to look out for moon-sighting – Oloyede
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has advised Muslims in the country to begin the search for the new moon of Shawwal from Monday, 4th July, 2016 equivalent to 29th of the holy month of Ramadan.Secretary General of the council, Professor ISHAQ Oloyede in a statement said ifthe crescent is sighted by informed persons on Monday night and His Eminence is so advised by the experts, he would declare Tuesday, 5th July, 2016 as the first day of Shawwal.
He however, said that if the crescent is not sighted on Monday night, Wednesday, 6th July, 2016 automatically becomes the first of Shawwal when Edel Fitri will be celebrated.
Professor Oloyede notes that Islamic leaders in each locality, such as the Shehu of Bornu and NSCIA-Deputy President-General, members of the National Moon Sighting Committee who can be contacted for information and clarification are:1 Mallam Hafiz Wali

He reminded the Ummah of the necessity of paying Zakatul-Fitri with the intention of lifting the hearts of the indigent members of the community, the Council urges all to ensure its delivery to the appropriate recipients (i.e. the poor) and guard against its diversion by any agent or intermediary.
