Militants to Junaid Mohammed: We’re fighting to leave Nigeria’

By Fegor Oghene, Asaba

Militants operating in the Niger Delta have stated that their aim is to exit the region from the rest of the country and not to be placated.

Reacting to comments credited to a Second Republic lawmaker and politician, Dr Junaid Mohammed, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to treat them as terrorists, they maintained that were agitators and not terrorists like Boko Haram insurgents.

Speaking on behalf of the militant groups in a statement issued on Tuesday, Coordinator of the Niger Delta Sea Commandos, NDSC, ‘Major’ Osama Blatter denied claims that politicians were funding Niger Delta militants.

The group said, “We commend Junaid for remembering that Boko Haram is a terrorist group, but we want to unequivocally tell the ethnic bigot that we are just agitators and not terrorists. Our activities and Boko Haram cannot be compared.

“We are not deterred by the call by Junaid Mohammed because such calls will only facilitate the crumbling of Nigeria, which is what we are after. Junaid should be informed that we never begged to be appeased by Hausa/Fulani President, Muhammadu Buhari.

“We are only fighting to leave Nigeria, which has enslaved and exploited us for too long. We are not sponsored by any politician, but it a civic duty required of us to liberate us people from slavery.”
