Spain-bound U-17 national female basketball team stranded in Abuja

Lagos, June 21, 2016 (NAN) The national U-17 female basketball team, D’Tigresses, who are to participate in the FIBA World Championships in Zaragoza, Spain from June 22 to July 2 are currently stranded in Abuja.

The team is in Group A of the competition with Latvia, Japan and Canada and are due to begin their quest for honour against Canada on Wednesday.

Dependable sources told NAN that the players are still in their camp in Abuja.

The sources linked their situation to paucity of funds to travel and the inability of the team to secure travel visas.

Meanwhile, efforts to get the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Tijani Umar to comment on the matter failed.
