Graft: EFCC fails to arriagn Yakubu, ex-NNPC GMD, Omokore

By Dotun Omolaja, Lagos

Efforts of the anti-graft agency, the Economic Financial and other Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arraign a former Group Managing Director of the Nigeria Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Andrew Yakubu and a controversial businessman, Jide Omokore has failed.

Owing to the absence of the two, the court has however fixed July 4, for the commencement of the trial of the two for sundry offences bordering on official graft and money laundering.

Yakubu was one of the GMDs of the corruption laden NNPC during the tenure of the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.

On the other hand, Omokore, an ally of the Alison-Madueke who has been in the news owing to series of alleged shady deals between him and the former minister.

The two were billed for prosecution on Monday over charges that were not made available to the media but they were not available thus prompting the court to fix a new date of July 4 for formal arraignment.
