Police IGP meets PDP leaders, warns against hooliganism

By Wahab Akanji, Abuja

The Inspector-General of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Mr. Solomon Arase has met with stakeholders within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Friday. This is coming just as the police boss has read a riot act to stakeholders in the party not to engage in act of hooliganism.

A statement issued from the police force headquarters obtained on Friday said the meeting was called to find a lasting solution to the protracted crisis rocking the party.

The statement issued by the spokesperson, Mrs Olabisi Alofe-Kolawole said  Arase convened the meeting with all stakeholders  with a call on combatants to ensure peace.

She stated that the call was particularly for the leading parties in the dispute, such as Senator Ali Modu Sherif and Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

Alofe-Kolawole said, “After exhaustive deliberations, in the meeting that was also attended by the Director-General of Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura, each of the factions – Sen Ali Modu Sherif’s and Sen Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi’s-led factions agreed to nominate four representatives, each, for peace talks to arrive at a harmonized position within one week…”

She however added that while the reconciliation is ongoing the PDP Secretariat at Wadata House Plaza and Legacy House should be under lock and key pending the outcome of the resolution.
