By Tom Amakri, Port Harcourt

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase has ordered the arrest and trial of personnel found culpable in the murder of ASP Mathew Akpos.

Akpos was reportedly killed by operatives of the State Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, earlier this month.

A statement from the Force Headquarters signed by the spokesperson, Mrs Olabisi Alofe-Kolawole said Arase took the decision to douse tension generated by the incidence.

“Upon the receipt of the information, the IGP immediately directed that the matter be investigated to ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, all the Policemen linked with the killing of the officer have been arrested, detained and are presently undergoing investigation, for subsequent prosecution.

“The IGP called on the family and friends of the deceased officer to remain calm and patient as the Police authority will not relent in their efforts to ensure professionalism in carrying out their constitutional assignment.” She wrote.
