Fashola seeks patronage of locally made electricity meters

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola has called on users to patronize locally manufactured meters so as to contribute to the growth of the nation’s economy.

Speaking in Kano at the formal launch of the mass meter deployment for Kabuga axis business unit of Kano Electricity Distribution Company, he argued that the quality of locally made prepaid meters in Ogun state remains the same if not better than the ones imported from China and India.

The minister who revealed that the power sector is spending over N500 million for the installation of meters across the country noted that the development has also opened the windows of opportunity for job creation for the unemployed youths.

According to him, the power sector would be distributing about 115,000 meters across the nation this year alone while urging consumers to be patient as the ministry is committed towards ensuring that in no distance time all consumers nation wide would have their own meters.

He said that personally inspected some local meters manufacturers in Ogun state and let found them having similar quality with those imported from China and lndia.

Fashola however commended KEDCO for involving their customers in the distribution of the prepaid meters and advised other distribution companies to toe the line of KEDCO.

The minister also urged Nigerians not to panic over the current power situation in the country promising that the federal government is doing everything possible to overcome power challenges facing the country.
