By Sulaiman Achema, Lokoja

The Nigerian Command Army Records, Lokoja, Kogi State has denied sending its men to invade the both the Assembly grounds and residence of members of state House of Assembly.

Reacting to the incidence, the Army stated that the soldiers seen there were fake.

Spokesperson of the Command Army Records, Lt. Col Dan Baba-Ochankpa distanced the personnel of the formation from the alleged invasion of the lawmakers’ premises on Wednesday while addressing newsmen in Lokoja over the incident.

According to him, the alleged military men were fake soldiers, who he said some members of the Kogi State house of assembly must have procured to intimidate other colleagues.

He said his men will never invade either the quarters of the state assembly or escort any factional speaker or members to the assembly complex.

“We don’t belong to any political party, our political party is Kogi State. Soldiers don’t fire anyhow, if you do that, then we court marshal you.

“We don’t take side, our duty is to maintain law and order and we will not allow such thing to happen in Kogi State”, he said.

He stated that there was no iota of truth in the allegation, as the operation was a cordon and search conducted in line with the aid of civil authority role as laid down by the Nigerian Constitution.

He said: “The operation was as a result of security report at about 10.30pm on May 30th 2016, about the presence of a group of unidentified gunmen dressed in military uniform suspected of being political thugs with the intent of disrupting the peace and causing mayhem around the state assembly complex area.

“Troops in aid of civil authority role in the state moved swiftly to the scene and discovered that some political thugs had gained entrance into the complex but quickly brought the situation under control and restored normalcy”.
