Ogun State Police Command has reacted to earlyÂ ThursdayÂ morning protests that rock the sleepy Ogun town of Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by the spokesman of the command, Mr. Muyiwa Odejobi, the errant police officer who he identified as Corporal Awoleke Moruf has been arrested.
According to Odejobi, Awoleke has commenced orderly room trial for killing a commercial motorcyclist whom he identified as Hammed Posi, 32 along Igboro area of the town at aboutÂ 11pmÂ on Wednesday.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the State, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali has directed the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Ogun State to conclude the orderly room trialÂ on ThursdayÂ and charge the suspect to court onÂ Friday 3rd June, without delay.
â€œThe misdeed of this erring policeman had triggered the anger of some members of the public, especially, commercial motorcyclists, who took over the streets and started attacking police personnel, facilities and vehicles before they were pacified by very senior police officers and His Royal Majesty, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Olu of Ilaro.
â€œThe Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Abdulmajid Ali, who was personally in Ilaro for on-the-spot assessment and monitoring of the situation, had a meeting with the family of the deceased and associates including some community leaders at the Yewa Traditional Council complex, Ilaro.â€
