Lagos court condemns two to death for armed robbery

A state High Court sitting in Ikeja, has sentenced two men, Omoilodan Seun and Gbenga Kayode to death by hanging for armed robbery.

 

Presiding judge, ‎Justice Atinuke Ipaye found the two men guilty of a three -count charge of conspiracy, attempted robbery and armed robbery brought against them by the state government.

Lead prosecution counsel, Mr. Akin George had told the court that the convicts robbed one Alhaji Jinadu of his phones and money on November 2, 2011 while they also robbed one Rilwan Gbadamosi and his wife on November 9 of same year.

He said the ‎ offence was committed at Ayangburen Road, Ikorodu.

‎According to him, the offences are contrary to Section 295 subsection (2) (b) of the Criminal law of Lagos State.

During trial, ‎the convicted persons had pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them by the prosecution.

The defence counsel, Damola Victor, pleaded with the court to tender justice with mercy on the ground that they were first time offenders.

Justice Ipaye found them guilty on all the charges.

She later sentenced the duo to death by hanging.
