A sixty year old man, Okereze Mang has been arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State capital over alleged rape he committed on a seven year old girl.

A sixty year old man, Okereze Mang has been arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Umuahia, Abia State capital over alleged rape he committed on a seven year old girl. 

 

Mang was said to have sexually abused the minor by beating her and having carnal knowledge and the crime was committed on the 26th of January 2016 at his village in Abiriba which is in Ohafia council area. 

The crime which was committed at Ohafia Magisterial district but the prosecutor, Azubike Udo applied for the case to be transferred to the state capital, which the court granted. 

At the trial, the accused was said to have committed an offence punishable under section 32[2] of the Child Rights Acts, Cap [50], laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004 as applicable in Abia state. 

The magistrate, Mary Ukeje Emenike directed that the accused be remanded at Afara prison in Umuahia and reminded him that he has the right to apply to  High Court for his bail. 

Magistrate Emenike thereafter ordered for the case file to be transferred to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for vetting and appropriate action. 

The case has been adjourned to March 3, 2016.
