Peterside flays Wike over statements on President Buhari, military

By Tom Amakri, Port Harcourt

The governorship candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC) in April 2015 general election in Rivers State, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside has flayed what he considered as abusive statements

credited to Governor Nyesome Wike against President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerian Military.

Peterside who spoke on Tuesday during a press briefing held at the APC secretariat in old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital also reacted on the repeated number of comments by Governor Wike against him and his party.

He alleged that Governor Wike during the thanksgiving service for his Supreme Court victory described Nigerian military as Boko Haram soldiers and lampooned President Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade and accusing him of being unserious in the fight against corruption.

“I vehemently condemn such display of verbal indiscretion against Mr. President and the Nigerian military. Wike recently dared President Buhari  and said If he wishes to   bring his Boko Haram soldiers to Rivers State that he will enter INEC office on election day [National and State Assembly rerun elections), and  he  will see who will push him out.

“This kind of statement typifies the persona of Governor Wike as someone lacking in respect, patriotism and character of being a councillor much more a state governor in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Let me draw the attention of Nyesom Wike to the fact that it is most callous of him to demonstrate such level of denigration on the gallant officers and men of the Nigerian military who are putting their lives at risk every other day to safeguard the Nigeria state and citizens.”

He said it is clear that Governor Wike has vowed to fight corruption in his own way than support the anti-graft campaign of Buhari administration.

“We would not support the fight against corruption; we would not take anybody to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission because I know what would happen.”

He noted that he  decided to bring these unfolding events to the attention of Rivers people, Nigerians and the world through the press  so that the grim situation starring in the face in Rivers State under the administration of Chief Nyesom Wike can be better be understood by all.

On alleged repeated comment by governor Wike against  officers of  Independent National  Electoral Commission (INEC) that  whoever plans  to rig the re-run National and state House of Assembly elections in the state should first write his or her own will, Peterside said it is the most callous statement any one can make.

“Consequent upon the judgment by the Supreme Court, I, the APC Governorship Candidate, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside, despite receiving the judgment with mixed feelings, came out to publicly announce my unreserved acceptance of the verdict.
