Two council bosses axed by Edo Assembly over funds diversion

 By Tony Ehighiale, Benin

Members of the Edo State House of Assembly have approved the removal of two council chairmen who had been suspended earlier from office.

The two affected chairmen are Osaro Obazee of Oredo Local Government and Emmanuel Momoh of Etsako Central Local Government.

They had initially been suspended in June last year over inability to pay salaries, illegal appointment, diversion of IGR, amongst other allegations.

The lawmakers said the two chairmen were indicted by the panel of inquiry that investigated allegations against them.

Two other chairmen, Victor Enobakhare and Roland Ibieorutonwen, of Egor and Orhionmwon respectively who were also suspended, were reinstated by the lawmakers.

The lawmakers said the panel’s report did not indicted Enobakhare and Ibieorutonmwen and that both chairmen were not given fair hearing.

Vice Chairmen of Oredo and Estako Central who have been in acting capacity were ordered to be sworn-in while the reinstated chairmen were asked to resume immediately.
