Fire razes Ebonyi INEC office

Another fire outbreak have burnt down the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State.


It was learnt that the fire disaster was caused by bush burning exercise in the area, which started from a far distance before it engulfed the entire INEC office in the area.

The Fire could not be put off as it happened in a remote part of the state far fro Abakaliki metropolis where the fire service is located 

Caretaker Committee Chairman of Izzi LGA, Hon. Richard Idike confirmed the incident.

He explained that the fire incident caused lots of damages because nobody was within the premises of the INEC office when the fire started

His words, “The fire came into the premises and burnt down the entire building because there was no security man or staff around to quence the fire; when I got there, I called the police and other persons.

“My report has been submitted to all the appropriate quarters including the state government. The fire burnt a large hectares before it got to the INEC office and raised it down completely. We have put measures in place to forestall further occurrence”.

 Electoral Officer of INEC in Izzi LGA, Mr. Paul Etanen said the fire destroyed furnitures, office documents and other valuables.

He stated that the report of the fire incident has been reported at the INEC Headquarters in Abakaliki.

The recent incident follows a series of fire outbreaks that have taken place in Abakaliki, Ohaozara, Ishielu, Ohaukwu, Ebonyi and Izzi LGAs.
