How plane crash turned me to a politician, says APC women leader

By Obinna Achi, Awka

Pioneer National Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Sharon Ikeazor has revealed how the Sosoliso plane crash of 2005

and the inaction of those in government compelled her into joining active politics.

Ikeazor who is the APC senatorial candidate for the Anambra Central rerun election also said that the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh should forget his ambition of becoming a senator as he will be roundly defeated by the voice of women during the election.

Speaking with newsmen after collecting her clearance certificate from the party to contest the election said “my foray into politics, started with one sad incidence, the Sosoliso Plane crash of December 2005 where 60 students died. That plane crash was pure negligence as far as I am concern.

“So, together with the Catholic Women Organization and Muslim Women Organization, we were organizing protest matches in Abuja, but did anybody really hear our voice? No.

“That was when I said I need a platform where my voice would be heard and that platform was a political party and now join the CPC as the National Women Leader of the CPC that is when my political life started”.

Ikeazor who said she consider herself a complete Nigeria said further: “I have played national politics since then, but this is not without watching and seeing what was going on in my state Anambra.

“Anambra they said is a very tough terrain politically. I believed with the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the helm of affairs, a lot of situation would be sanitize, there would now be consequence of action.

“Anambra state would have been better developed as it is. I was born there, my early years was there during the war, after the war I left for Lagos.  From Lagos then I schooled in the UK, I schooled in Kano and I schooled in ABU Zaria so I consider myself truly a Nigerian.”

While unfolding her agenda for the people of Anambra central, she said “our people are traders, basically businessmen and women and we need an Inland seaport, a functional inland seaport so that our traders can be bringing in their goods into that Inland seaport.
