Ekitigate scandal: Group seeks security cover for whistle blower

By Sunday Aloba, Ado-Ekiti

A socio-political group within the Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ekiti Reformer Movement (ERM), has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, to protect one of its members, Dr.  Tope Aluko from harassment, attack or death.

“fake security men posing as policemen to arrest the party scribe on the purported order of the police authorities”.

In a statement on Tuesday by its spokesman, Idowu Olaleye, the group

said Aluko’s allegation against the state governor regarding the rigging of the last governorship poll was real, as fake policemen actually stormed Channels office to arrest the party leader on the purported order of the Inspector General of Police while he was on a live programme on Sunday.

The group urged Fayose to answer posers on how he got INEC soft copies that he said he printed to win his election and tell Nigerians the election results he said he collated in Efon-Alaaye two days to the governorship election as he himself revealed in the Sagir Koli tape instead of sending attackers against his opponents.

The body said the visit of the “strange men” to arrest Aluko was a confirmation of its alarm, particularly when the police authorities denied knowledge of any order to arrest Aluko inside the Channels studio.

It claimed that the alleged trailing of Aluko is following the pattern during the electioneering campaign for the 2015 general election when opposition candidates, members and their supporters were attacked and their campaign materials destroyed.

The statement said: “He did to APC lawmakers when men in hoods in unmarked black jeeps visited their homes and delivered letters purportedly inviting them by the police. But upon seeking to confirm  the invitation by the lawmakers, the then Commissioner of Police,

Taiwo Lakanu, said he never authorised an invitation,” he explained.
