Ekiti disburses N5million loans to poor farmers

By Sunday Aloba, Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Government has disbursed N5 million as loans to 102 peasant farmers in the state.

Distributing the cheques to benefitting farmers, Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Cooperatives, Hon. Michael Ayodele explained that the primary aim of the gesture was to guarantee constant supply of staple food to the people in the state.

He noted that the present global economic situation called for concerted efforts towards an improved agricultural production, assuring that the Ayo Fayose led administration would continue to empower farmers in the state within its limited resources.

The Commissioner however stressed the need for the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously and pay back the loan at the stipulated time.

In his remarks, President of the state chapter of the Farmers Congress, Alhaji Sola Balogun expressed gratitude to the State Government and pledged on behalf of the beneficiaries to use the loans judiciously towards ensuring food production throughout the dry season.

He urged members of the public not to panic during the simulation exercise, which was designed for their protection and safety.

The soft target used for the simulation exercise is the International Conference Centre, Abuja and the agencies involved are the Army, Navy, Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, Immigration Service, Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Ministry of Health, National Emergency Management Agency, National Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and all other respondents.
