My Sons not involved in Arms deal, reports malicious, says Obanikoro

A former Minister of Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has stated that his sons, who he described as thoroughbred professionals, are innocent of the allegations being bandied around in a section of the media.

He consequently challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and an online platform, Sahara Reporters to publish the names of the directors and signatories to the alleged Sylvan McNamara Limited account to which monetary transfers were made.

Obanikoro also called for the disclosure of when the said money was paid rather than demonising him and deceiving Nigerians with vague, contrived and distorted information.

Disclosing this in a signed statement issued yesterday by his Media Aide, Mr. Jonathan Eze, the former minister queried the “wisdom and logic of bandying figures and associating same with his sons who are thoroughbred professionals in their own rights.”

The former PDP governorship aspirant in Lagos State said he is appalled by the public political persecution embarked upon by these agencies noting that there is nowhere in the world where investigations are conducted using the pages of the newspapers.

He reminded the EFCC and the online media platform that the “court of law remains the judicial institution for trying cases and not whipping sentiments in order to give the dog a bad name and hang it.”

According to Eze, Sahara Reporters is propagating these lies and propaganda against Obanikoro because of the legal cases instituted against it by the former minister for misleading the public and defaming his hard-earned reputation having served the nation in various capacities with enviable untainted records of public service.
