Ooni of Ife visits Awujale, sues for unity in Yorubaland

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has paid a royal courtesy call on the Awujale of Ijebulan, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbogba II, in his (Awujale’s) palace in Ijebu-Ode on Friday.

Oba Ogunwusi who was received by over 28 traditional rulers in Ijebuland, as well as prominent indigenes explained that the visit was in continuation of his efforts to ensure unity and peace in Yorubaland.

According to the monarch there is the need for all members of Yoruba nation to come together and defend their rights, adding that “Yoruba must acknowledge its values and be in unity in other to develop and promote the Yoruba land.

“Am not here for supremacy battle because all of us belong to oneGod and the King of Kings to whom we will all be accountable. 

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi explained further that his visit is mainly to acknowledge Oba Adetona as one of the paramount kings in Yorubaland whose wisdom and experience is most needed in unifying all sons and daughters of Yoruba.

“I will be closer to Oba Adetona to solicit his support in the campaign of unity and peace I started” Ooni said.

In response, the Awujale expressed joy to his guest whom he described as a very thorough bred human being.

He advised him to shy away from history distortment from anybody, undue government influence and praise singers.

“Our paramount aim is to speak the minds of our people and  provide social amenities”

Receiving the Ooni and his entourage, Oba A. Oguntayo , the Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife who describe Oba Adeyeye as a unique monarch and epitome of distinction, stated that the visit was historic and it will go a long way in the history o Yoruba land.
